There are many tours offered for
travel in Europe, but rarely will you find a tour so unique - one customized for the
antique shopper. Whether you prefer fine rare antiques or just enjoy finding a great
bargain to treasure, this tour will take you into the heart of Italy and afford you the
antiquing experience of a lifetime. The romance and the beauty of Italy with its
castles, medieval towns, palaces and cathedrals will warm your heart. There is
nothing quite like the old world charm of Italy.
The region of Emilia Romagna in northern Italy is famous for many important reasons. One event that is famous in all of Europe is the antique fair in Parma, it is one of the largest and most important. The 1000 dealers that show in 5 large pavilions, which are covered, enclosed and air-conditioned, are from all regions of Italy, including Sicily and other parts of Europe. This important international trade-fair is entitled "Mercanteinfiera" and is held twice a year--once in the spring and once in the autumn. Important buyers arrive from all over the world, from Brazil to Australia, from Japan to Russia and many of them return every year because they always find the most desirable and interesting antiques at the most inviting prices.
As with our Cortona-Arezzo tour, for your convenience, this tour pivots around one hotel-- the four star Hotel Canalgrande. The trade-fair is located outside of Parma, which is only a short distance from our home base Modena. Modena is a small town that dates back to the Etruscans and the Romans. Throughout the years, many things have been changed, but Modena has retained the old world charm, with a bit of dignified class. This elegant town and luxury go hand in hand! Prosciutto, parmesan cheese, balsamic vinegar, Ferrari, Maserati, De Tomaso and Luciano Pavarotti are all synonymous with Modena. The spring tour is for ten days and
will include three full shopping days at the " mercanteinfiera," small local antique markets in the province of Modena, free time in Bologna, a visit to the De Tomaso factory (where incredible sport cars are made by hand), a trip to Spilamberto--the heart of balsamic vinegar--where we will learn how this rare and wonderful vinegar is made, and we will visit an unusual antique shop in Italy, one selling only English antiques! For many people the most special event will be dinner at Luciano Pavarotti's restaurant! Modena is the home town of this incredible singing voice, and if we are very lucky and he is in town, he will come to say "ciao"!
